An HIV positive mother doesn’t always mean the baby has to be HIV positive, too. Proper treatment can help greatly reduce the possibility of transmission. Here are some steps for a healthier baby:
  • Get proper, ongoing medical care – good health care, along with HIV treatment, can greatly reduce the risks of passing the HIV virus to an unborn child.
  • Find a gynecologist. This doctor will help guide you through the steps you need to take to reduce the risk of passing the HIV virus to your unborn child.
  • Your doctor or clinic can refer you to a gynecologist with experience in HIV treatment. Your gynecologist can also give you information on how to keep your baby healthier after birth.
Don't Go It Alone
Reach out to family, friends, your church community and social groups – it will help increase your understanding of HIV and how to live a healthier life, both physically and emotionally.

Joining a support group can help connect you with women who are going through similar experiences.
HIV Support groups can offer so many things:
  • Learn more about living with HIV
  • Help through emotional crisis
  • Shared experiences
  • A sense of positive community
With proper care and treatment you can better manage your HIV status and live a healthier life!
